CHEVALIER’S SMART-B818II MAXIMIZES HIGH-PRECISION GRINDING FOR A VARIETY OF INDUSTRIES Chevalier’s SMART-B818II has received praise from its clients for the machine’s high-precision grinding and ease of operation. Many SMART users in various industries, including the medical, semiconductor, aerospace and job shop products fields, have experienced a dramatic increase in reliability and productivity. The SMART-B818II is capable of producing “mirror” surface finishes on highly accurately ground workpieces, which produce microfinishes of 0.25 micron Rmax. The positioning accuracy is 0.5 micron and the grinding accuracy is 1 micron. The SMART’s movements are programmable in increments of 0.0001mm and include a table size
of 8" x 8". The maximum distance from table to spindle centerline is 18" and wheel spindle is rated at 1000-7000rmp and 3HP. The SMART’s standard grinding wheel size is 8" x ½" x 1-¼". The machine weighs approximately 2,665 lbs., with dimensions of 80.9" x 82.36" x 82.7". “The SMART’s PC-based control, combined with a user-friendly conversational function, makes it easy to learn and operate,” says Chevalier Vice President Johnson Lan. The SMART control features include: • Microsoft Win CE Platform • 10.4 TFT Graphic Conversational controller with preview function • Various built-in factory-programmed canned cycles • Surface/Plunge/Criss-Cross/Profile grinding modes • Powerful graphic program input function, available for grinding and dressing • Easy to operate and can combine grinding cycle, wheel dressing and auto compensation without using a CNC program • Wheel dressing can be executed during grinding cycle • Conversational and G-code programs can be saved in hard drive • FANUC CNC program compatible
Machine features include: • The geometric modeling and structural analysis of the machine were performed with the help of 3D computer software to ensure superior rigidity and extended longevity.
• Pyramid machine base with superior stability.
• Extra-long guide design of spindle seat offers high rigidity to overcome cutting resistance.
• Saddle traverses on double-vee guideways that are coated with Turcite-B anti-friction material, resulting in smooth movement and good support.
• The table guideways are coated with Turcite-B low-friction material and are precisely hand scraped, providing high accuracy. For more information, contact Johnson Lan of Chevalier Machinery Inc. at (562) 903-1929 or email: info@ChevalierUSA.com or visit us on the web at www.ChevalierUSA.com

JACK OF ALL TRADES: CHEVALIER’S FBL-530 HANDLES ROUGH- AND FINE-TURNING NEEDS WITH EASE; MACHINE COMES IN THRESS SIZES IN POWERFUL FANUC 0I-MD CONTROL Chevalier’s FBL-530 is an incredibly versatile machine that is helping manufacturers with a wide range of needs.
The slant bed lathes are stable, highly accurate machines that can handle rough and fine turning operations for large work pieces Its structure, capacity, power and accessories underscore the machine’s ability to expertly and ruggedly handle various operations in an efficient, productive manner.
"The FANUC control and digital servo drive and motor are standard features with the FBL-530," says Chevalier National Sales Manager Herbert Hou. That represents a substantial cost savings for our customers. Other companies sell these features as options. Here are vital specs about the FBL-530: Structure: Heat treated to Rockwell 55 degree and stress relieved. Features a 45° slant-bed design, comprised of single-piece Meehanite cast iron with wide-span, ribbed box structure. Four oversized box ways, 130 mm wide and 80 mm high, provide strong stability and support.
Capacity: Spindle bore diameter ranges in size up to ø320 mm, which suits most oil industry applications. Maximum swing diameter is 40.5"; cutting diameter is 37". Three sizes offered: 80", 120" and 160". Special Z-axis, ball screw support maintains high precision and stability. Dual-chuck, easy access design provides
convenience of loading and unloading longer parts.
Power: Powerful 60 HP Spindle motor that features a four-stage gearbox and generates 7,118 NM torque would satisfy most cutting condition of large-diameter work pieces or tough material applications. Turret: Massive, 200-mm-thick disk and hydraulic clamping of its curvic-coupling design ensure cutting stability during rough turning environments.
Accessories: Standard equipment of programmable tailstock has a built-in MT-6 rotary quill and includes a better part’s weight support than a normal live center type of quill.

Equipment Makers: Tax incentives are a great way to sell your product! I recently logged on to an IMTS 2012 Exhibitor Webinar, which talks about two important tax incentives: 100% Bonus Depreciation and Section 179 Expensing. The Webinar emphasizes that educating or reminding your customers and prospects about these provisions today could convince them to buy new or used equipment and get
it placed in service before the end of the year. And before these generous incentives are dramatically reduced in 2012.
Here are the specifics of each incentive: 100% Bonus Depreciation This is an unprecedented tax incentive for your customers. This applies only for purchases of brand new equipment made between Sept. 9, 2010 and Dec. 31, 2011 and placed in service by Dec. 31, 2011. There is no purchasing limit. It allows for 100% appreciation for the rest of 2011 but will be reduced
to 50% next year and possibly to 0% in 2013. It only applies to assets that have a depreciable life of 20 years. The purchase must be “Same Class, Same Way,” which means buyers must take the same level of appreciation for all equipment bought in the same class in the same year. Program applies to regular taxes and alternative
minimum tax (AMT).
Section 179 Expensing Section 179 Expensing is a tax incentive for small businesses. Section 179 covers new and used equipment. For part of 2010 and all of 2011, this provision offers 100% appreciation for purchases up to $500,000. The incentives are sharply reduced next year. In 2012, there is a $125,000 maximum deduction
for purchases up to a $500,000. In 2013, a maximum deduction of $25,000 applies for purchases up to $200,000. The allowable deductions are reduced when the maximum purchase price is exceeded. There is no “Same Class, Same Way” in Section 179.
Warning Always consult your tax professional who will know of any issues that could enhance or mitigate the advantages of Bonus Depreciation and Sec. 170 Expensing. Link to AMT Expensing Fact Sheet: http://www.amtonline.org/article_display.cfm?article_id=161468§ion_id=102 The 100% Bonus Depreciation and Section 179 Expensing are a great unprecedented options for sales if the customer is just not ready to purchase. This could give them an incentive to make the purchase now and take the advantage of the tax deduction in 2011.
To find out more, join AMT staff as they explain these provisions and how you can use them to your advantage. See link to Webinar on IMTS web site: http://www.imts.com/exhibitor/webinarvideo.cfm?vid=377
